Favourite things...

My new favourite thing...
I just came across this today and it is quite intriguing. It is based on the premise that wisdom can only be fully revealed when the questioner accepts sense within nonsense. I recommend reading the history first then pondering....
SAGE

Here was my reading from today:
Question: When our soul hides from us, where do we search?
Answer: Truth is a matter of individual perception. You may believe what you choose, unless you KNOW.

Other favourite things: (in no particular order--just ones I have thought about recently)
1. freshly vaccumed carpet
2. the smell of a horse
3. getting into bed
4. the "happy ending" at yoga (when it's not done by Chelsea)
5. tea

By the way, my birthday is coming up next week, and if I knew anyone who could afford it, here's what I'd be asking for because it is so damn cool...

ART FOR SALE

Happy early Birthday.

When I clicked on the 'ART For Sale' link all that popped up was ERROR: File not found.

Anyway, at least white cotton kisses did not make the list, but not surprised that tea did. Had to laugh to myself when getting into bed made the list, but not "getting into bed with Bob". Only to be followed by a happy ending at yoga--I won't even go there.

I feel like I am about to be mean, but that is not my intention. I went to the Sage link--fully excited, I love that kind of thing-- only to be dissappointed by a couple of things. 1) It stated in the introduction that these scrolls did not re-emerge until 1985. Then, a few paragraphs down, it says the contents were first released in 1977. How does that make sense? If I misread or misinterpreted them, let me know. Anyway, debunking their authenticity does not mean that they still are not cool or wise so 2) I continued on... I really like the quote you posted in your blog, but mine was:

Question: Why is beauty so poignantly hungered for?

Answer: A tongue carries upon it the opening words- not the last statement. Verbosity simply delays the outcome.

Here's my deal with this. I LOVE the answer. Totally cool and it really makes you think about bullshitting people. Plus I hate people that talk constantly and don't really say anything. Completely a waste and destroys credibility, which is so important. What I do not like about the answer is the fact that combined with the question, it makes no sense whatsoever. Granted, it states that we are to find the sense in nonsense. But I did, its right after the second "N".

This is why I love your blog, always something to think about.

Several things...
1.The link is fixed, so you can go back and check now.
2. What the hell are "white cotton kisses"?
3. You are not the first to comment on the getting into bed thing. Yes, I should have included "with Bob"...you are correct.
4. As far as SAGE goes, to my best knowledge, the "historical" account is entirely fictional and the "game" of SAGE was created by Nick Bantock. However, that is no excuse for technical inaccuracies. I will have to email the webmaster regarding this.
5. Even given the fictional nature of the origin of the game, I believe it is of great use for asking intriguing questions and receiving thought provoking answers. And it is true that there are valuable things that can be garnished by reflecting on each part in and of itself. But I do believe that the real challenge is figuring out HOW the answer given could possibly be an answer to the question asked. Yes, you could arrive at nonsense. But, as the site says, the challenge is finding the sense within that.
6. Don't knock the "happy ending" til you've had one. It's fabulous.
7. Nice smart-assed comment in the last sentence. That's the kind of quick thinking, crass remark that makes you a perfect kind of friend.

I think that white cotton kisses is a line from that song from Sound of Music, but honestly I have no idea if that is actually a line or not. How about girls that wear dresses (again- don't know if that's accurate)

Also, I will continue to navigate Sage because it is interesting and thought-provoking.

What kind of friend would I be if I didn't make crass, smart-assed comments.

P.S.- I am not knocking the "Happy Ending'-- do you know the history of that phrase and what it means?

Combined with sleeping alone, it is high-larious.

Oh, I get it now....
It's actually "girls in white dressses and blue satin sashes".
I might have got it if you said "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens"

And yes, I know what "happy ending" means (traditionally). In YOGA its called "shavasana." It includes the application of scented oils to the feet, shoulders, neck, temple, and scalp and a mini-massage of those areas while practicing meditiation and the traditional "shavasana" corpse-pose. But we call it the Happy Ending.

p.s.-When did I ever say anything about sleeping alone?

Go consult the Sage... :)

What is up with your blog. Why is there giant print? I thought it might be my computer, but this is the second one I have used and they both were just formatted for the visually impaired.

P.S.-I love Grad School!!

P.S.S.-I have decided that I am going to go on a European vacation after I graduate for 2 weeks (London, Paris, Spain, maybe Italy). I need someone to go with me so I am nominating you (& Bob if he can get time off of work.)

P.S.S.S.-If I finish graduate school befor eyou, then you owe me for the plane fare.
